To maintain a TRECCERT certification, professionals must adhere to Continuing Professional Education (CPE) requirements. These requirements ensure that certified individuals stay current with industry standards and continuously enhance their knowledge and skills. This guide outlines the key requirements and how to meet them.

What Are TRECCERT’s CPE Requirements?

TRECCERT-certified professionals are required to earn 90 CPE credits during a three-year certification cycle. To maintain certification, candidates must:

  1. Earn a minimum of 30 CPE credits annually.

  2. Submit a CPE Log Form each year to document CPE activities.

  3. Ensure payment of the Annual Maintenance Fee (AMF) upon submission of the CPE report.

  4. Retain records and evidence of CPE activities for verification if requested by TRECCERT.

Earning CPE Credits

CPE credits are earned through professional activities that enhance your skills and knowledge in your certification area. For TRECCERT certifications:

1 CPE credit is awarded for every 45–60 minutes of qualifying activity.

• Activities must align with the subject area of the certification being maintained.

CPE Activity Categories

TRECCERT recognizes five categories of CPE activities. Each offers a variety of ways to earn credits:

1. Professional Activities

  • Preparing or delivering webinars, seminars, or conferences.

  • Serving as a subject matter expert (SME) on a professional panel.

  • Attending professional meetings.

2. Work-Based Learning

  • Completing workshops or in-house training.

  • Performing peer reviews.

  • Engaging in lab exercises beyond regular job responsibilities.

3. Educational Activities

  • Completing formal university courses (in-person or online).

  • Participating in structured self-study, instructor-led, or blended courses.

  • Attending webinars, seminars, or professional conferences.

4. Exam Item Development and Review

  • Creating or reviewing exam items for TRECCERT certifications.

5. Publications and Reviews

  • Publishing or reviewing articles, research papers, whitepapers, or books related to the certification subject.

Reporting CPE Activities

Annual Reporting

Certified individuals must:

  • Submit the CPE Log Form detailing activities completed during the year.

  • Provide evidence (e.g., certificates of attendance, meeting agendas) to support reported credits.

Record Maintenance

  • Retain copies of all submitted CPE logs and supporting documentation for audit purposes.

  • TRECCERT may request records during a compliance audit.

Annual Maintenance Fee (AMF)

In addition to meeting CPE credit requirements, certified individuals must pay an Annual Maintenance Fee (AMF). Payment is due when submitting the annual CPE report. Failure to pay may result in certification suspension or withdrawal.

Non-Compliance with CPE Requirements

Certified individuals who fail to meet the CPE requirements or pay the AMF risk losing their certification. Ensure compliance by:

  • Keeping track of earned credits throughout the year.

  • Submitting required documentation and fees before the deadline.

Meeting TRECCERT’s CPE requirements is essential for maintaining your certification and staying competitive in your field. With a variety of eligible activities and the support of GRC Lab, certified professionals can ensure compliance while advancing their careers.
